Any teacher would agree that classroom behavior directly correlates to a student's academic success. As behavior issues are resolved, students' progress improves measurably, as does the climate of their classrooms/schools. The keys to resolving those issues are consistent and effective screening, progress monitoring, reporting, and interventions, which until now have been woefully inadequate. Enter Review360, the comprehensive, web-based behavior improvement system that provides the right behavior data for the right situation.

Meet Johnny and learn how Review360's web-based behavior management system helped address and improve his classroom behavior and overall success.

6 indicators of effective classroom management

Expectations

Setting behavioral expectations is the foundation for proactive classroom management. Appropriate and acceptable behaviors must be taught, modeled, practiced, and reinforced on a daily basis.

Procedures

Classroom procedures must be defined to provide guidance to students in how things work in the classroom. They should be methodically taught and consistently enforced to become habit within a short amount of time.

Structure

A structured classroom and well-prepared teacher greatly improve student success. Having required materials and supplies readily accessible reduces the occurrence of problem behaviors.

Reinforcement

The teacher of a well-run classroom recognizes that the behaviors that are reinforced grow stronger over time. Praise, comments, and constructive feedback let students know they are being successful. There is a greater ratio of positive vs. negative interactions.

Interaction

A well-run classroom includes a good balance of structure and nurturing. Students that have a positive relationship with the teacher and the other students feel safe and comfortable to learn. There is a climate of respect and caring. A sense of community is present.

Correction

In a well-run classroom, problems will still occur, but the teacher has developed a plan for correcting behavior that has been taught and reinforced. Both positive and negative consequences have been initiated, and desirable replacement behaviors are identified.

5 Steps to Improving Student Behavior

There are no shortcuts to better student behavior, but there is a better path.

1

Track

The path to improved behavior starts with observation. Easy-to-complete reporting forms promote regular progress tracking by teachers and administrators, ensuring consistent data reporting.

2

Aggregate

Compiling information from teachers and others provides a more complete picture of the student’s behavior. We’ve simplified this step by organizing behavioral data in a centralized database.

3

Analyze

Now it's time to analyze the data that you've tracked and aggregated. Equipped with a complete picture of student behavior, the development of an appropriate behavior intervention plan becomes easier.

4

Intervene

You're now ready to help a student improve behavior and track their progress. An effective behavior intervention plan prepares you with practical strategies that fit the student's profile while being consistent with district protocols.

5

Communicate

The final step in a systematic approach to behavior management is communicating actions and progress across all parties, resulting in continuity of expectations and consistency in the student's school day.
