Pearson's Field Research Opportunities
Pearson's Field Research team is dedicated to revising, updating and developing new educational and psychological assessment tools while ensuring that they remain sound and reliable over time. We are looking for qualified field examiners to be a part of our field testing division.
How We Do Field Research
A large part of our revision and development process is determining each test's reliability and adherence to ethnic and socioeconomic neutrality. This research often involves the participation of thousands of subjects during several stages of field testing. These include the tryout, pilot and standardization phases. Each of these steps helps us to refine the assessment tools and administration guidelines that will ultimately become the final product.
Pearson field research coordinators enlist qualified examiners to assist in identifying the right candidates to participate in the research edition of the assessment. It is imperative that our assessments are demographically diverse and accurately represent the U.S. population. As a result, our projects are monitored for equal distribution of gender, region of the country and socioeconomic status. Some of the professionals we rely on to assist with field testing include:
- psychologists in the fields of neuro, clinical and school psychology
- speech language pathologists
- social workers
- educational diagnosticians
- early childhood specialists
- supervised graduate students
Benefits of Participating in Field Research
Participating in field research is the best way to preview and quite possibly affect the latest advancements in educational and psychological testing. Pearson provides all of the necessary equipment for field testing any new technology, such as assessments that use our Q-interactive iPad software.
For participation in field research testing, we pay both the examiners who are administering the assessments as well as the examinees who are taking them. Compensation varies from project to project depending upon the estimated administration time. Pearson also offers site compensation for coordinating a project directly or assisting examiners by providing recruiting assistance and/or a physical location for testing.
Examiners are able to give valuable feedback to our team, which often affects the outcome of the final product. In addition, each examiner and test site is recognized in the published product manual acknowledging their contributions.
Learn How to Get Involved
Each examiner and site has to complete our online application, which will help us verify your qualifications to administer or host certain assessments. Once your application is reviewed and you meet a project's qualifications, you will be invited to participate in the project. At that point, you will be responsible for recruiting suitable candidates. Those candidates will be selected based on the demographic needs of the study in which you are participating. Each field research examiner must have access to the internet in order to communicate with Pearson's field research coordinators and manage their project participation.
