Content and Administration
The interrelated elements of The Work Sampling System—Developmental Guidelines and Checklists, and Summary Reports—are customized for each grade level.
Developmental Guidelines cover seven major curriculum areas: personal and social development; language and literacy; mathematical thinking; scientific thinking; social studies; the arts; and physical development, health and safety.
Summary Reports replace conventional report cards as a way of recording progress, communicating with parents, and meeting reporting requirements. Using information from the Developmental Checklists, you complete a Summary Report three times a year.

The InvestiGator Club
Inquiry-based Early Learning
It includes all the elements recommended for quality preschool programs.
Standards-based, integrated curriculum
Inclusion, dual language, multicultural relevancy
STEM+Arts = STEAM
Purposeful inquiry, the heart of The InvestiGator Club, challenges young children to use their senses, to ask questions, and to find answers in an interactive, language-rich environment. Children are encouraged to think like a scientist, construct mathematical concepts, appreciate fine art and music, and engage in meaningful conversations.
The Power of Story
The InvestiGators have formed a club to solve mysteries, tackle tough problems, and investigate their world. The program’s unique storytelling technique transforms story time into a dynamic experience that invites:
Active participation as children help tell each story
Prediction opportunities with instant feedback
Problem solving and reasoning
Essential Life Skills
Children quickly relate to the important values and life lessons the InvestiGators explore all year long: Don’t give up, believe in yourself, look out for friends. The characters build bridges to the real world and help children:
Talk about and practice social-emotional skills, such as empathy, sharing, taking turns, and patience
Focus and engage
Develop critical thinking skills
Teaching Outside the Box
The InvestiGator Club provides choices and creative tools for flexible “outside the box” teaching that inspires teachers, children, and families.
Best practices are guided by each classroom’s curriculum needs -- play-based, project-oriented, or more structured based on the unique experience, teaching style, and goals of the teacher.
The InvestiGator Club is a trademark of Robert-Leslie Publishing.
Summary Reports can replace conventional report cards as a way of recording progress and communicating with parents. Scores are "As Expected" or "Needs Development."
Standards-based Developmental Guidelines Performance Indicators result in a score of “Not Yet,” “In Progress,” or "Proficient."
The Path to Success for Young Children: Integrating Curriculum and Assessment
Presenter: Gloria Maccow, PhD and Beth Alley Wise
Children in pre-kindergarten classrooms do amazing things all day, every day. Some of the things they do are teacher-directed, some are spontaneous. As early childhood educators, we provide children with experiences and opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge, and behavior that have been demonstrated to predict learning. We also observe children’s performance to determine how to adjust and modify instruction. This dynamic interplay between instruction and assessment ensures our young learners are on the path to lifelong success.
This webinar will describe a comprehensive assessment and instruction solution that integrates The InvestiGator Club, a preschool curriculum that focuses on ten critical domains of learning, and The Work Sampling System, an authentic observational assessment that helps teachers individualize instruction.
