The School to Prison Pipeline: The Impact of Disproportionality and How to Effect Positive Change
Presenter: Andre Banks, MEd and Adam Bauserman, PhD
We all know that kids can’t learn if they’re not in the classroom. We also know that suspensions and expulsions are leading indicators of drop outs and future incarcerations. When you take into account that zero tolerance does not work along with the nationwide problem of disproportionality in our schools’ disciplinary practices, you can start to see why the U.S. has the largest prison population in the world and why the racial disparities are so glaring.
The good news is that there are processes and interventions that can keep students in class and positively engaged in their learning environments. Implementing the steps we know work can change a kid’s life today, tomorrow, and well into their future. Join Andre Banks and Dr. Adam Bauserman as they discuss what does and doesn’t work and how to effect positive change for your students.
